Public Safety Office Support Specialist works within the Office of the Governor (OOG), Public Safety Office (PSO) and reports to the Grant Administration Director. Performs moderately complex (journey-level) technical and administrative support work. The focus of this position is to support the on-line grant management system. Work involves providing technical support to internal and external users of the on-line system; coordinating and disseminating information, developing technical and administrative support systems, and coordinating internal administrative support work. Provides consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, and the general public. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Provides customer service and answers user inquiries regarding computer software, hardware operation, and the use and interface of systems and software applications.
- Manages user accounts within division’s online software system while ensuring that necessary security controls over software are maintained.
- Coordinates and performs general office duties such as answering phones, routing incoming calls, taking messages, greeting visitors.
- Serves as primary point of contact for PSO travel and purchasing processes.
- Serves as primary point of contact for PSO Public Information.
- Coordinates updates to applications and posts PSO content using appropriate change management procedures.
- Provides complex technical assistance and support for troubleshooting and resolving application problems.
- Analyzes and tests new or existing procedures and/or processes; and, provides assistance in the design, development, and maintenance of various system applications.
- Maintains documentation related to technical updates made to the eGrants online grant management system.
- Assists with records management and retention efforts.
- Maintains records of daily data communication transactions, problems, and actions taken.
- Prepares, edits, and distributes correspondence, reports, studies, forms, and documents.
- Generates routine technical reports and assists with creating special reports.
- Serves as the Additional Duty Safety Officer (ADSO) for the division.
- Maintains regular work schedule.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or equivalent; and
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in administrative assistance, computer systems support, and coordination.
Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in administrative assistance, computer systems support, and coordination.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements

Registration, Certification or Licensure
Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements and/or Working Conditions
This classification functions in a standard office environment. Ability to move up to 20 Ibs. Ability to drive and travel as needed. Will need to move about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, set up conference rooms for meetings, etc. Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information via phone, computer and in person. Must be able to observe and evaluate data in a variety of formats, including hard copy, electronic and media formats. Must be able to work hours during a legislative session that include holidays and as needed.
