General Description:

This position is assigned to the Governor’s Office, Public Safety Office (PSO) and reports to the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Task Force (SASTF) Administrator. The focus of this position is administrative support and coordination for the Sexual Assault Survivors’ Task Force established by HB 1590.  This task force will advise the legislature on statewide efforts to prevent child and adult sexual assault and develop policy recommendations on topics including training, evidence kit collection, forensic exams, and minimum standards for sexual assault survivor care.  The Administrative Assistant performs advanced (senior-level) administrative activities, including coordinating SASTF meetings, disseminating information to various parties including SASTF members, and performing other internal administrative support work. The Administrative Assistant will be in frequent contact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.  This position works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinates SASTF meetings, SASTF Steering Committee meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Coordinates, prepares, edits, and distributes meeting materials, meeting minutes, meeting correspondence, and other documents.
  • Maintains and updates SASTF program documents including SASTF membership lists, timelines, reports, summaries, policies and procedures, and training and operating manuals.
  • Compiles and edits SASTF data for charts, graphs, and databases.
  • Assists in analyzing data, and supports preparation of data summaries and reports.
  • Ensures that SASTF website content is comprehensive and up-to-date.
  • Assists with preparation of periodic and special reports and ensures that deadlines are met.
  • Assists with research and editing of agency publications such as brochures, forms, manuals, and reports.
  • Manages and maintains schedules and travel arrangements.
  • Prepares and compiles presentation and training materials.
  • May respond to general inquiries regarding SASTF activities.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent plus (4) four years of progressively responsible experience in administrative assistance, support and coordination. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in administrative assistance, support and coordination. Experience in the field of criminal justice, victim advocacy or crime victim rights.

Note: Education and experience may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Registration, Certification or Licensure:    Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements and/or Working Conditions:  This classification functions in a standard office environment. Ability to move up to 35Ibs.  Ability to drive and travel as needed.  Will need to move about the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, set up conference rooms for meetings, etc. Must be able to communicate and exchange accurate information via phone, computer and in person.  Must be able to observe and evaluate data in a variety of formats, including hard copy, electronic and media formats. Must be able to work hours during a legislative session that include holidays and as needed.
