Governor Abbott Proclaims October 4, 2016 to be National Night Out

October 4, 2016 | Austin, Texas | Proclamation

Strong, safe neighborhoods are created by community pride, communication between neighbors and an active partnership with law enforcement.  Active and alert citizens united toward the common good are the best defense against crime.

For years, communities across America have celebrated National Night Out with the goal of keeping crime and drugs out of our neighborhoods.  National Night Out is an effort that includes citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials who want to see safer, more secure communities.

National Night Out activities include neighborhood block parties, vigils, cookouts, parades and flashlight walks — all of which are designed to build a strong sense of community and greater awareness of our surroundings.  The individuals and groups participating in this nationwide event are helping to stop crime before it starts.

At this time, I encourage all Texans to participate in National Night Out.  By doing so, our communities reinforce their commitment to a safer and stronger Texas.

Therefore, I, Greg Abbott, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim October 4, 2016, to be National Night Out

GREG ABBOTT
Governor
