Governor Abbott Accepts Consumer Technology Association’s Innovation Champion Award

April 20, 2016 | Austin, Texas | Press Release

Governor Greg Abbott today attended the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) Digital Patriots Dinner in Washington, D.C., to accept the Innovation Champion Award on behalf of the State of Texas. CTA’s Innovation Scorecard ranks Texas among the top states for championing innovation-friendly policies, encouraging entrepreneurial activity and attracting investment.

Excerpts from Governor Abbott’s Digital Patriots Dinner speech:

“These wheels give me a unique perspective on the technology industry – for both of us, speed is critical to moving ahead and barriers to entry must be removed. It is that mindset that propels Texas to be a leader in technology.”

(…)

“For the past three years, Texas has been the top high-tech exporting state. One of the reasons is that we’ve built a framework that allows technology and entrepreneurs to flourish: low taxes, reasonable regulations, right-to-work laws and faster permitting processes.”

(…)

“We excel at training the next generation of technology innovators. We already award more engineering and electrical engineering doctorates than most states in the nation. But we’re not stopping there in expanding STEM education – I’ve established the Governor’s University Research Initiative to recruit the best and brightest researchers and scholars to our universities.”

(…)

“The future generation who will help CTA achieve its agenda in the next decade are in Texas schools today.”

(…)

“Texas is proud to be one of the Innovation Champion Award winners, and we will continue to make the state even more friendly to the Consumer Technology Industry.”
