WEB VIDEO: Governor Abbott Leads Transformation Of Early Education In Texas

Following Governor Greg Abbott signing his emergency early education initiatives into law on Thursday, the Office of the Governor today released a web video highlighting Governor Abbott’s plan to elevate Texas’ education system to be number one in the nation, beginning with the implementation of high-quality education standards for Texas Pre-K students.

“Our journey begins with striving to create the best education system in America,” said Governor Abbott in the video. “We cannot wait until tomorrow, we must start today. I am proud to sign into law HB 4, to ensure children get off to the best start for early education.”

For the first time since being elected Governor, Greg Abbott made his way to the Permian Basin today. He spoke with teachers and students about budgets, and what kind of changes they would like to see in the classroom. He says this was just one of his many stops to public schools throughout the state. (KOSA-TV, Odessa)

Governor Greg Abbott and several lawmakers want to look at improving Pre-K for the state’s hundreds of thousands of three and four-year-olds. Abbott’s plan calls for increasing funding by as much as $1,500 per eligible four-year-old. District officials call the prospect exciting. (Texas Tribune)
