Governor Abbott Appoints Three To Specialty Courts Advisory Council

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Jarvis Anderson and reappointed Ruben Reyes and Ray Wheless to the Specialty Courts Advisory Council for terms set to expire February 1, 2023. The council evaluates applications for grant funding for specialty courts from the Governor’s Office and makes funding recommendations to the criminal justice division regarding best practices.

Jarvis Anderson of San Antonio is the chief adult probation officer of Bexar County. He serves as vice chair and Region Four representative to the Probation Advisory Council of Texas and is a member of the National Association of Probation Executives and The Texas Probation Association. Anderson received a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Lutheran College.

Ruben Reyes of Lubbock is judge of the 72nd District Court. He is chairman of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, member of the State Bar of Texas and former president of the Council of State Drug Court Associations and the Texas Association of Drug Court Professional. Reyes received a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from Baylor Law School.

Ray Wheless of Allen is judge of the 366th District Court. He is the chair of the Specialty Courts Advisory Council and President of the Texas Association of Specialty Courts. He is Board Certified in Criminal Law, Civil Trail Law and Personal Injury Trail Law. Wheless received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California and a Juris Doctor from The University of Texas School of Law.
