Governor Abbott Appoints Three To The Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners

Governor Greg Abbott appointed Dr. Daniel “Dan” Brudnak and Peggy Lewene “Lew” Vassberg and reappointed Suehing “Sue” Chiang to the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners for terms set to expire on January 31, 2021. The board has licensing, examination and rulemaking responsibilities in the field of acupuncture.

Dr. Dan Brudnak of Gorman is a private practice family medicine and acupuncture physician. He is a fellow and diplomat of the American Academy of Family Practice and diplomat of the American Board of Medical Acupuncture. He served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force and assisted the Department of Defense with NASA Space Shuttle launches by providing medical support. He serves as the medical director of the Gorman Volunteer Fire Departments, Olden Volunteer Fire Departments, Cisco Volunteer Fire Departments and Kindred Hospice. Dr. Brudnak received a Bachelor of Science in biology and physiology from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and completed his Family Practice Residency at Memorial Medical Hospital in Corpus Christi.

Lew Vassberg of Lyford is president of Valley Designs, Inc. She is the founder and past board member of the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers. She is the former vice president of legislative affairs for the Texas Association of Interior Designers and an honorary life member of the American Heart Association. She is a former appointee of the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners. She has served on the board of the American Cancer Society, Valley Zoological Society and the Boy Scouts of America in Harlingen. Vassberg received the Texas Chapter ASID Legacy of Design Award for Healthcare in 2004 for the Children’s Center at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

Sue Chiang of Sugar Land is a retired elementary school teacher of 30 years for the Fort Bend Independent School District and the Houston Independent School District. She is a former appointee of the Governor’s Commission for Women. Chiang is member of the Fort Bend ISD Education Foundation Board of Directors, member of the Sugar Land Multi-Cultural Committee, and vice chairman of the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Board of Trustees. Additionally, she is a community volunteer for the Fort Bend Women’s Shelter. She is also a former board member of the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce and Sugar Land Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Chiang received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the University of Houston.
