Governor Abbott Appoints Four To Texas Military Preparedness Commission

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Mike S. Sullivan, Shannalea Taylor and Kevin Pottinger and reappointed Dennis Lewis to the Texas Military Preparedness Commission for terms set to expire February 1, 2021. The Commission's goal is to preserve, protect, expand and attract new military missions, assets and installations. Additionally, the Commission encourages defense related businesses to expand or relocate in Texas.

Mike S. Sullivan of Kingwood serves as the Tax Assessor-Collector for Harris County. He is the owner of Mike Sullivan Interests, LLC, and previously served the City of Houston as a city councilman representing District “E”. He has also served as a member of the Humble Independent School District Board of Trustees and as an advisory director of the HealthCare Corporation of America’s Gulf Coast Division. Additionally, he is an ex-officio director of the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership. Sullivan received a Bachelor of Science in political science from the University of Houston.

Shannalea Taylor of Del Rio is president of The Bank & Trust of Del Rio and Brackettville. Previously, she served as a marketing and downtown development agent for the Del Rio Council for the Arts. She is a member for the U.S. Air Force Community Partnership Program Steering Committee and Texas Bankers Association and past president of the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, she is a member and Pentagon delegate of the Military Affairs Association, Laughlin Air Force Base. Taylor received a Bachelor of Science in agricultural communications from Texas Tech University.

Major General Kevin Pottinger, USAF (Ret.) of Keller is the former Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, Pacific Air Forces at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. Previously, he served as Director of Operations and Chief of Weapons for the 10th Air Force, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth. He later served as Commander of the 301st Fighter Wing, NAS JRB Fort Worth. He completed Air Force pilot training as a distinguished graduate at Reese Air Force Base, Lubbock. He then entered the U.S. Air Force Reserve after 15 years of active service. He is a command pilot with more than 4,000 career flight hours and a recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Clusters and the Air Medal. Pottinger received a Bachelor of Science in geography and a commission through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Program at Arizona State University.

Dennis Lewis of Texarkana is a military advisor and liaison to the Texarkana College Red River Army Depot (RRAD). Previously, he has served as director for Business Management, Chief of Staff and Base Relocation and Closure Transition Coordinator at RRAD. He is a board member of the Texarkana Red Cross, member of the Texarkana Chamber of Commerce and facilitator of the Texarkana Community and Military Affairs Round Table. He is a past chair of the Selective Service Systems Local Board 123, former Maud city councilman and former board member of the Maud Independent School District and Maud Industrial Foundation.
