Governor Abbott Appoints Three To Texas Southern University Board Of Regents

Governor Greg Abbott today appointed Wesley Terrell of Dallas, Derrick Mitchell of Houston and re-appointed Marilyn Agatha Rose of Houston to the Texas Southern University Board of Regents for terms to expire on February 1, 2021.

Wesley Terrell is a mergers and acquisitions lawyer with AT&T in the company's Dallas headquarters. He previously worked in Houston at Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom, LLP as a transactional lawyer in the areas of mergers and acquisitions and corporate finance, at Weil, Gotshal & Manges as a transactional lawyer and at Vinson & Elkins LLP as a commercial litigator. Terrell’s prior government experience includes service on the Texas Emerging Technology Fund, the Texas Advisory Committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights, and as a commissioner on the City of Pearland Zoning Board of Adjustments. Terrell has served as the chair, vice chair and treasurer of the J.L. Turner Legal Association Foundation, a non-profit which awards minority scholarships, a board member and treasurer of the J.L. Turner Legal Association, the African-American Bar Association of Dallas and a board member of Opera in the Heights, Inc., a Houston-based opera company. Terrell has received several awards, including being honored by the Dallas Business Journal with a 2011 Minority Business Leader Award and by the State Bar of Texas for work in providing pro bono legal services. Terrell is a graduate of Yale University, Columbia Law School, C.T. Bauer College of Business and Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business Graduate Finance Certificate Program.

Marilyn A. Rose is a certified public accountant and a former registered Texas assessor collector. She has over five years of audit experience in the public accountant firm of Price Waterhouse and Deloitte & Touche and nine years of internal audit experience with the Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Office. She is currently employed at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as a financial analyst in the Finance Office. In early 2000, Rose started LM Rose Consulting Group LLC, a company offering accounting and business consulting services. She is a former member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, sits on the Board of Texas Organization of Youth Sports and has formerly served as a board member of the Lupus Foundation of America, Texas Gulf Coast Chapter. She has served on the Texas Southern University Board of Regents since 2011. Rose graduated with a B.B.A. in accounting from Prairie View A&M University and received her M.B.A. from Texas Southern University.

Derrick Mitchell is a partner in the public law section of the Houston office of Bracewell & Giuliani, LLP. In addition to his primary focus of serving as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, and underwriter's counsel, his background includes corporate and business transactions with concentration on financings, business acquisitions and dispositions. Mitchell also serves as board counsel to several community colleges. Mitchell presently serves on the Board of Scenic Houston, a non-profit organization tasked with preserving and enhancing the visual character of the City of Houston, Row House Community Development Corporation, and he has previously served as the Chair of the Greater Houston Partnership Local Relations Committee. Mitchell additionally serves on the Harris County Improvement District No. 8 Board and is a member of the National Black MBA Association Houston Chapter Executive Committee. He previously served on the Texas Securities Board. He graduated with a B.B.A. in finance from the University of Houston and received a J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center.
